Split Elk Leather Dress
by Black Hawk Creations
The sleeveless-design dress is created by Barb Haskell of Black Hawk Creations. This stunning northern plains style dress is made from breathable, machine washable split elk hide. We have found that this is as close a material as we can find to resemble the old style brain tanned hides
Meticulous attention to detail is given to all Barbara's hide work. The seams are all hand sewn, and /or blind stitched. The fringe is all painstakingly hand cut.
This is a very versatile garment. On warm days, this can be worn sleeveless, or with a white cotton chemise style top. When the weather chills down, or if more formal Pow Wow dance regalia is needed, the addition of one of the available capes will definitely fit the bill.
Capes are available in a late 1800's-early 1900’s Kiowa or Crow style.
Barb also creates beautiful Plains style one-piece dresses inspired by the Sioux, Crow, Cheyenne, and Kiowa. Painstaking research has been done on these wearable pieces of art, to bring you the finest Regalia you can purchase!!
Modern Native inspired leather garments are also in Barbara's repertoire of creations, such as Vests, Bolo style Jackets, Skirts, Tunic tops, and Halter Tops. These can be ordered as plain garments awaiting your own personal decorative touch, or be decorated with bone hair pipe, beadwork etc.

Betty is a master leather crafts person with over thirty years experience in making custom leather apparel for people around the world. Specializing in Native American regalia, American Mountain man and Rodeo Queen cloths, Betty handcrafts each item with her heart and soul resulting in garments which are unequaled by anyone.
Before beginning a project Betty says a prayer of thanks to the Great Spirit for the animal that gave its life so that people may have clothes and food and asks the Great Spirit to bless the animal in it’s new life as a garment. All the materials are of the highest quality
available and are selected to be most appropriate for the particular item being made. There is no machine work done on any of Betty’s garments. Although the stitching looks so good one might think it was done by a machine I assure you that every bit of it is painstakingly done by hand. Items made include Rodeo Queen attire, Flute bags, baby moccasins, Native American regalia, and American Mountain Man clothes.
Betty has been adopted by the Big Day family (Crow) of Pryor Montana and she has also been adopted by the Seminole Nation of Florida. Betty has made Garments for people in many countries. She is especially proud to have made garments for Charlie Daniels of the Charlie Daniels Band, movie actress Jane Powell, and James Billie, former chief of the Seminole Nation of Florida.
Betty takes special orders. Email us with your contact information, and Betty will contact you directly.
